About Me

I moved to live in Birmingham in 2021, so I am a newish “Brummie”. But I have lived near to the city for many years, albeit with a gap when I lived in London. I think it’s true to say that I am a city person. I love the diversity and energy of cities, and Birmingham excels in both of these characteristics.

Most of my career has been in education, starting as a teacher in the Black Country. From there I progressed to more senior roles and then moved into work as a school advisor and inspector which then led to three roles as Director of Education, Libraries and Arts in three councils in London and Home Counties. The last decade of my career was as an adviser to central government particularly on school improvement and governance. I’m now happily retired, with a small portfolio of voluntary roles. I am a passionate supporter of civic societies and joined the Birmingham Civic Society very soon after moving here.

I have a keen interest in the arts, which is another reason why Birmingham is a great place for me. Just being able to pop on a bus to see world-class music, theatre and galleries is brilliant.
