Christ Church C of E Nursery and Primary School honoured for promoting safety and inclusion

Christ Church of England Nursery and Primary School has proudly received a School Star Award in recognition of its exceptional commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all. This accolade follows the school’s designation as a School of Sanctuary—a national recognition for schools that go above and beyond to support those seeking refuge and safety.

A School of Sanctuary is a place where everyone—especially asylum-seeking and refugee families—can feel secure, valued, and embraced. Christ Church has embodied this ethos through a series of powerful community initiatives that celebrate diversity and foster belonging.

Highlights include:

  • Cultural Food Festival: A vibrant celebration attended by the school community, raising £500 for charity.
  • National Day of Welcome & Refugee Week: Marked with activities that honour the journeys and resilience of displaced families.
  • National Cultural Diversity Day: Every pupil and teacher wore cultural attire, while parents shared traditional stories and facts from their homelands.
  • Family Heritage Project: A meaningful opportunity for families to document their cultural roots and migration journeys.
  • Support for St Chad’s Sanctuary: Donations of clothes, food, and toiletries to aid refugees and asylum seekers.
  • Easter Egg Raffle: A joyful fundraiser that raised £152.50 for charitable support.

Through these efforts, Christ Church has cultivated a culture of compassion, understanding, and active citizenship. Their recognition as a School of Sanctuary is a testament to the school’s unwavering dedication to safety, inclusion, and community spirit and we were delighted to have been able to shine a light on their wonderful community focused work with a Birmingham Civic Society School Star Award.
